The Doctors Company is currently seeking a Claims High Exposure Technical Leader to join the HQ Claim team. This is an officer level position.  This position will include telecommuting options.


Position Mission

Responsible for developing high exposure claim handling strategies, assist in the development of national claim processes, and identifying opportunities to achieve optimal cutting edge solutions in the rapidly changing healthcare litigation environment.



  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or related area of study. JD or other advanced education is a plus
  • 10 plus years of national experience in high exposure, medical professional liability claims management
  • Subject matter expert in high exposure claim strategy achieving optimum results
  • Experience leading teams and working cross-functionally on innovative products
  • Ability to influence and motivate others with perseverance to handle challenging business situations at all levels of management and cross-functionally
  • Proven quantitative, analytical and problem-solving skills; must be comfortable performing data analysis and making data-driven decisions
  • Demonstrated ability to identify internal/external stakeholder needs while developing innovative solutions
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. Published and public speaking is a plus.




Industry Surveillance and High Exposure Case Oversight           

  • Assist National Claim Technical Leader to coordinate effective internal and external monitoring of adverse trending
    • Augment industry surveillance with early signal detection of emerging litigation trends
    • Claim Analysis and Collaboration on high exposure matters
  • Assist National Claim Technical Leader to identify and develop processes and services, as well as, modify processes and services to address high exposure trends.
  • Obtain information and input from appropriate stakeholders to develop and manage high exposure cases.
  • Collaborate with the Regions on high exposure case reviews and attorney management
  • Support the regions as a subject matter expert with additional input and resources for high exposure cases.
  • Identify statues, tort reform and case law that impact file handling and communicates that to stakeholders throughout the organization.
  • Assist National Claim Technical Leader to identify opportunities to expand internal/external knowledge base to develop and educate TDC partners on the industry trends through:
    • Think tank papers (Issue and Underwriting Consideration)
    • Alert Bulletins
    • Collaborative Benchmarking Studies
    • Evidence Based recommendations to Patient Safety, Underwriting and Product Development
    • External/Internal Conferences, Advisory Committees, professional organizations, etc.


Data Management and Analysis           

  • Analyze current claim cases against national trends to provide communication and additional guidance across regions to ensure a comprehensive defense against emerging trends.
  • Develop reporting and analytics to audit file outcomes
  • Coordinate efforts with appropriate stakeholders to embed knowledge gained into existing claim handling processes
  • Assist National Claim Technical Leader in partnering with the Regions to build cohesive communication channels and establish a strategy to support all stakeholders in collaboration with Claim Operations, Innovation and Development Leader
  • Assist in identifying claim metrics for successful claims management


Project Management and Execution

  • Provide input on software evaluation, design, and development.
  • Lead a team or committee to support the implementation and execution of new claims software and/or programs
  • Assist National Claim Technical Leader in reviewing potential merger and acquisition opportunities for TDC.


Strategic Planning

  • Assist in the development of the strategic plan through analysis of the historical claim performance.
  • Assist in Monitoring HQ and Regional performance against strategic plan/initiatives for regular updates to SVP Claims.


Reinsurance Oversight   

  • Assist National Claim Technical Leader in Partnering with Actuary, Finance, Underwriting and the Regions to:
    • Comply with all Treaty and other reinsurance requirements.


Culture Management       

  • Ensures the Claim Department’s culture is aligned with and supports TDC Core Values.
  • Serves as role model for TDC’s mission and values.


Other duties as assigned

  • Assists with a variety of department and company-wide projects including department research, surveys, and department audits
  • Speaks on behalf of the HQ Claim Department in front of diverse groups of stakeholders, in various settings
  • Makes oneself available for any and all duties
