Patient Safety Analyst

 

Overview

 

Under general supervision, reviews claim files and medical records and then enters data in the Harvard EIS and MPS systems. This position will also assist the Patient Safety Department with research and writing articles.  Contacts are employees at all levels and vendors.  This can be full-time or a part time position.  

 

Qualifications

 

  • Baccalaureate or advanced degree
  • Three (3) years of experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • Internal candidates will possess five (5) years of experience in the Patient Safety Department with a baccalaureate degree or advanced degree in nursing (RN). 
  • External candidates will possess a baccalaureate or advanced degree in nursing (RN) and three years of experience working as a registered nurse.
  • Experience working in healthcare risk management, patient safety, quality improvement, infection control, utilization review, case management or legal nurse consulting is preferred.
  • The ability to work independently and unsupervised.
  • The ability to work well with others.
  • The ability to travel to meetings and conferences, in state and out of state
  • Strong organizational skills. 
  • Proficient computer skills using Word and Excel in a windows environment.  
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Analysis of medical records and quality issues (3+ years)
  • Understanding of medical terminology and clinical systems
  • Understanding of clinical medicine
  • Knowledge of liability concepts and standards of care
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. 
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Product and Service Development

 

  • Provides requested clinical data sets
  • Assists in the development of articles and other resources for internal and external publication
  • Provides training and expertise on data utilization and benchmarking
  • Identifies trends and areas of interest during work with clinical data. 

 

Patient Safety Operations Effectiveness

 

  • Analyzes clinical data related to medical malpractice claims
  • Using multiple taxonomies (CRIT & PIAA), enters claims data into outside vendor systems
  • Collaborates with Program Manager to produce reports of claims data and analytical studies.

 

TDC technical knowledge and professional development

 

  • Maintains technical knowledge and analytic skills to efficiently utilize relevant information systems

 

Other duties as assigned

 

  • Participates in other identified projects and tasks as necessary.
