The Department of Patient Safety and Risk Management is a collaborative team of patient safety and risk management professionals who support our mission to advance, protect, and reward the practice of good medicine.

 

We provide industry-leading education and consultation in support of nurses, physicians, and healthcare organizations who are seeking to improve patient outcomes, increase reimbursement, and provide safe healthcare services. We’re looking for great candidates to join our effort to help improve the quality of healthcare and reduce the risk exposure of medical malpractice claims.

 

 

Position Summary

The primary function of the Patient Safety Healthcare Quality and Risk Management Consultant is to support direct patient care by coaching, mentoring and teaching our members in the West Coast Region.  This is a full-time, telecommuter role.

 

Key Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Masters degree preferred. Registered nurse or equivalent healthcare education preferred.
  • RN CPHRM, CPHQ preferred
  • Ability to work with diverse personalities.
  • Ability to think critically, manage multiple assignments effectively, organize and prioritize workload, remain calm and work well under pressure
  • Good organizational skills; exhibits accuracy when working with details.
  • Good communication, active listening and presentation skills.
  • Ability to exchange information clearly and concisely, present ideas, and report facts and other information.
  • Excellent organizational/planning skills.
  • Ability to identify customer’s patient safety/risk management needs and develop needed programs to drive and measure sustainable improvement/compliance
  • Highly skilled in professional speaking and writing   
  • Relate positively and professionally in all situations
  • Thorough knowledge of applicability of relevant laws and regulations.
  • Ability to attend meetings and training sessions, make presentations or perform other assignments at locations outside regular office.
  • Demonstrable experience in patient safety and quality improvement innovation in the health care field
  • Ability to travel 20-30%

 

 

Business Development and Relationship Development

  • Manages Patient Safety Discount Programs
  • Collects key insights on competitor offerings that may need to be considered by TDC
  • Shares product and service knowledge gained with enterprise department leaders
  • Identifies and promotes Patient Safety services with National Underwriting, BD, UW, Agents and Brokers.

 

Member Service

  • Consults, as needed, with Account Teams (UW, Claims, BD. as Subject Matter Expert of HC topics)
  • Consults with Account Teams in developing service plans & metrics
  • Develops customized solutions, resources and tools to facilitate the provision of Patient Safety services to complex healthcare organizations
  • Partners with the Risk Manager to provide PS Services
  • Coordinates PS Service Delivery across account teams (if required)

 

PS Focused Account Service Team (FAST)Effectiveness

  • Supports (analysis, solution recommendation, gap analysis) implementation of FAST process
  • Maintains High Reliability Organization (HRO) team focus on processes and priorities

 

TDC technical knowledge and professional development

  • Completes required training and maintain proficiency in the use of identified PS/RM tools and products
  • Maintains professional training and certifications through continuing education and training
  • Develops and maintains proficiency in the use of data analytics, benchmarking and data-driven solutions
  • Gathers and grows expertise and familiarity with HRO principles and how to effectively help members transform into HRO.  

 

Product and Service Development

  • Creates and/or collaborates in the planning and development of staff education content and activities
  • Participates in the development of department services, tools, and resources and facilitates efficient utilization by staff and members
  • Provides for efficient delivery of services and documentation of services
  • Collaborates on plans to increase the quality and availability of member services
  • Supports regions by providing resources and coaching for accounts in collaboration with regional staff
